XML documents that are well-formed and are namespace compliant have the potential to be Infosets. That is, they may define abstract data structure descriptions that may be used and reused by multiple schemas without concern for ever having a naming conflict.

Infosets are a base building block for the W3C XML specifications. It enables the creation of specifications that can share models as well as a consistent approach to design.
