Synchronicity deals with the issue of running operations in a serial versus parallel mode. Synchronicity comes in two flavors: synchronous and asynchronous.

Web Services have the ability to work in both synchronous and asynchronous mode. The majority of the early services deployed were synchronous. It is anticipated that orchestrated services and Extended Enterprise services will more likely be asynchronous in nature.
